SportPax Case Study

The Project:

Sportpax is a fun and innovative rucksack for kids in the shape of a sports ball. It has the functionality of a traditional rucksack but would put a smile on the face of sport mad kids! Tony came up with the idea whilst he was chatting to his friend in the village pub. The thoughts of someone else running with his new product idea prompted him to get on with his project.

The Process:

With Innovate help and advice, Tony was able to create design and CAD models of his idea. With the photorealistic CAD visualisation boards, Tony was able to approach bag manufacturer. The feedback he received was that he needed a tangible product before others would be prepared to take the idea forward. “The process of creating a decent prototype took circa 15 months. There was no eureka moment as such but the real highlight was when a sample came in that family and friends liked and would take seriously!” Tony Tony and his manufacturing agent put together a detailed product specification. They went through QA testing, safety certificates, barcoding to produce the first rucksacks.

The Results

Sportpax football is now on the market and available for purchase at www.sportpax.co.uk, with future plans to include different balls (rugby, tennis and cricket), colours and to provide branded bags with team bags logos. Even Victoria Beckham was inspired as she twitted a picture of herself wearing the football rucksack View here
