The Lightbulb Moment

The journey of Belma began when David (the inventor) identified a specific problem while traveling at home and abroad: the inability to find a stylish button-down shirt that also featured French cuffs. He felt that many shirts on the market lacked a comfortable look and feel, often being too long in length to be worn untucked. The inspiration was to create a shirt with a unique identity that offered a "perfect fit" and true versatility, allowing it to be worn with a suit or undone for a more casual but equally stylish look.

The Journey with Innovate Design

The process of turning this idea into a reality involved a close collaboration with the Innovate team to conduct market research and create a formal Proof of Concept. Innovate's expertise was pivotal across several phases, including ideation, prototyping, and defining the right fabrics and providers. Beyond the physical product, Innovate also assisted with the creation of the brand's identity and the development of its e-commerce website. David found this guidance invaluable while navigating the complex steps required to determine a viable route to market.

The Big Win

The breakthrough moment occurred when David saw the idea come to life through the prototype, which confirmed the versatility of the shirt he had envisioned. Today, the Belma brand is officially launched with its range available to purchase online at Belma.co.uk. Although the business is still in its infancy, market testing has yielded excellent feedback regarding the quality, style, and unique functionality of the product. To protect this unique identity, the brand name has been successfully trademarked

What’s Next?

Looking ahead, the goal is to continue building the brand identity through targeted marketing and sales efforts. The future plans for Belma include expanding the product portfolio by increasing the variety of colour options and styles available. Ultimately, David aims to widen the clothing line to establish a broader presence in the fashion industry.
