Say Hello to Bev. Bev is one of our treasured patent researchers and all-round wonderful lady. We asked her some quick questions so you can get to know her and Innovate a bit better..

How would you describe a day in the life of a researcher?
Mostly it’s very quiet, as our team has its own room where it can deliver the focus that the job demands. From time to time there will be a discussion if one of us wants to check our interpretation of a client’s idea with colleagues. That’s our superpower; each other! Oh, and drinking lots of tea and coffee.

As a researcher, you are always so deep in work and concentration. What do you like to do to unwind?
Gym, walk, country pub – not necessarily in that order, it just looks better that way.

Favourite animal?
Monkey.

What do you like about the job you do?
Being able to put the knowledge gathered over a lifetime (or so it feels!) of experience to good use; also learning something new each day, either from my colleagues or our clients. It’s such a privilege to have access to the ideas that are so close to our inventors’ hearts and it is part of our role to ensure that, not only do we carry out the best job possible for them, but also that their confidentiality is guarded.

Do you have a type of invention that you are most interested in?
Anything to do with aircraft – I love a good air show and have my plans laid already for Bournemouth this year. The RAF 100th Anniversary show at Fairford last year will be hard to beat, though.

What’s your go-to treat?
All food and drink. And visits to my family here in England and back in my native Northern Ireland.

Your desk is a hub of happiness, but where’s your happy place?
Scuba diving or just being in or by the sea in general. And anywhere with my family.

What is your favourite thing about working for Innovate?
It wouldn’t be fair to make me choose either the people or the job, so I’m going to insist on both. Being part of a fun, supportive, inspiring wider team makes me feel so happy to walk into our beautiful Salisbury studio each day. Together with a job that is never boring.
