A (very) warm welcome to James Scott, a student at Northumbria University Design School, who has recently joined Innovate on a two month placement. James is currently in his second year studying Design For Industry (product design). James was runner up in the ‘Design Innovation in Plastics Award’, a yearly event which aims to promote the use of plastics by allowing students from all over the country to enter their designs to address a particular brief. This year's brief was, ‘ Saving Lives - Design for Disaster Relief’. James was one of 5 shortlisted from around the country and came second with his ‘Rain Pod’ design, which provides shelter during monsoons and also harvests clean drinking water. He was pipped to the post by a post-grad from the RCA, 7 years his senior, so not bad going at all. As James said, "This was probably a good thing as the placement/prize at Innovate is what I wanted to win! " |
You can find out more on the website including the brief, other entrants and sponsors that were involved.

"While at Innovate, I hope to generally improve my design skills through concept sketching and practice on Solid Works as well as get a real taste of how the industry works. I am looking forward to working on an array of projects during my stay and hope I can benefit the group however I can. I have only been here a day and I can already tell I will have a fulfilling and enjoyable experience!" James Scott.
We are thrilled that James has come to spend a few months with us and hope he enjoys the varied work with the team, despite the scorching hot weather we are experiencing at the moment at Innovate HQ.
