Taking an idea more seriously is about moving from casual consideration to meaningful action. Here are some signs that an idea could be worth more of your attention.
You keep coming back to it
Persistent thoughts about an idea over weeks, months or even years could suggest it is something you are deeply passionate about. If you are keen on the idea, perhaps others will be too.
The idea addresses a problem or need
The idea should address a clear problem or fulfil a specific need. If you can explain the problem the idea solves and who would benefit, it could suggest it has real-world applications.
Competitors are innovating in this area
Other businesses creating new products in the area of your idea could be a sign the idea sits in a market that is currently growing.
You haven't seen anything similar
Chances are there are similar products or services out there, but if your idea has important improvements this could mean there is space for it in the marketplace.
Is it time to take your idea seriously?
If you recognise these signs in your idea, it doesn't mean it's guaranteed winner but it could be worth dedicating more time and resources to exploring its potential further.  If you're ready to consider options for your idea, request a confidential idea review with one of our Innovation Coaches.
