Meet Kinkit. Kinkit is a relatively new member of the team, but had the skills and tenacity of a classic Innovate designer since day one. We think you’ll really like him. Kinkit answered some of our questions so you can get to know him a bit better..
How long have you worked at Innovate?
I’ve been working at Innovate for 6 months. It’s gone by very quickly.
What inspired you to get into design?
Back in Year 10, I had a DT teacher that really liked my designs. I rarely had the feeling of being proud of my work or really being noticed by teachers, I was just that quiet Asian kid in the corner. But when I presented my initial concepts for my GCSE project to my DT class, it was really well received by everyone, my teacher especially. It was the first time I felt I had done something special, something that I was good at. So I just kept going.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I like to dance; hip hop, break and urban. I have recently started teaching urban and break at a local dance studio in Salisbury.
I am also an avid basketball fan. I play weekly with some people from Innovate.
What’s your favourite animal?
Dogs, they’re super loyal and happy all the time. Never had
one but would love one.
What is your favourite kind of product to work on?
Any hand held consumer product, as I can better relate to the end user and more clearly see the benefits of the product.
What does a day in the life of a designer look like?
Very full on. Especially at Innovate, everyday brings a new challenge and really tests your design and engineering skills.
A mixture of sketches, CAD, presentation boards and prototyping keeps me busy every second of the day. It’s the most intense environment I have ever worked at.
Most importantly, it is always fun. Designing and making innovative, novel products is always exciting.
What product do you wish you’d invented?
This is really tough question.
I don’t know why but I keep thinking of Kanye West talking about investing lots of time and money trying to invent something better than the zipper.
Nothing quite beats a zipper on clothing.
The mechanism it uses and how it is basically the best thing to close up jackets and pockets with. It’s such a simple, effective and versatile product. I wish I could’ve invented.
