The WIPO has published the 2022 Intellectual property indicators.

The reading shows a harsh realisation that China is booming ahead, leaving the rest of the world behind in innovation.

“China and the Republic of Korea register strong growth among the top five offices for a second consecutive year. Filings in China grew by 5.9% in 2021, following a 6.9% increase the previous year. The Five offices among the top 20 received fewer applications in 2021 than in 2020, with the Russian Federation (–11.5%), the United Kingdom (UK) (–8.7%) and Germany (–5.7%) reporting the steepest declines. “
