The time is drawing near - designers frantically add the finishing touches to their final year projects, universities gather and assemble the last components for their stands, and award-winning industry professionals prepare their motivational speeches - the New Designers Show is just around the corner.
What is the New Designers Show?
In just one week the New Designers Show – the UK’s most important exhibition for emerging designers – is exhibiting at the Business Design Centre in London. It’s a chance for the crème de la crème of undergraduate designers to flaunt and showcase their innovative products and talent.
The New Designers Show is a valuable opportunity for talented British designers to kick-start their careers. In fact, just last year two young, aspiring undergraduate designers first heard about Innovate after the leading product development company delivered an ‘Award for Ingenuity’ at the exhibition. After the show, both designers proceeded to get in touch with Innovate and now work full-time within the product design team.
Despite Brexit blues, this is just one example of how the New Designers Show can open doors for gifted designers such as these. The exhibition demonstrates that Britain still possesses the ability to train and retain young homegrown talent, by provoking fresh thinking and building a pipeline of exceptional talent into one of the UK’s leading sectors.
A former exhibitor and current Innovate product designer said:
“It’s really exciting and rewarding when you get recognition for your hard work. There’s a huge and diverse range of products at the show, you always find something you have a connection to. The highlight for me was when Joseph Joseph [an award-winning English houseware manufacturer] presented the awards and gave an inpirational speech about when they exhibited at the show, giving advice to the next generation of new designers.”
The Innovate Ingenuity Award
On July 6th, Innovate Product Design will attend Part 2 of the New Designers Show to support these young, up-and-coming entrepreneurs and deliver the Ingenuity Award. The award, delivered by Managing Director Alastair Swanwick, goes to the most innovative invention at the show.
